The naming competition announced in April by Rail Baltic Estonia and the Pärnu City Government to find a name for Rail Baltica's Pärnu International Passenger Terminal ultimately received 372 name options. 203 unique names were submitted, of which 5 names have now been selected for a public referendum.

"Last year, with the help of the public, we managed to christen the Rail Baltica international passenger terminal in Tallinn, and now we are asking for people's help to find a name for the passenger terminal in the summer capital Pärnu. All five shortlisted candidates are worthy and each of them could decorate this architecturally outstanding station building with a name," said the Chairman of the Board of Rail Baltic Estonia. Anvar Salomets

The jury selected five nominees from 203 names, from which the winner will be determined in a newly announced referendum, which will last until Until June 17. Voting is open. On the Rail Baltic Estonia website.
The candidates for the name of the Rail Baltica Pärnu passenger terminal are:

Lydia

Embecke

Hansa

Parnu

Raymond Valgre

"I am very pleased to say that participation in the naming competition for the Rail Baltica Pärnu terminal was active and the call was responded to with great offers. A little over 200 unique names were submitted. As a member of the committee, I can say that the people of Pärnu are resourceful people and the number of different name options proposed for our future railway station terminal was surprising. The competition showed that the cultural layer of Pärnu (county) is rich and inspiring, and there is plenty of material for a representative name here. It was therefore not easy to make a choice, but I believe that the candidates who were selected are completely Pärnu-like and have a good international and Estonian sound to suit the Rail Baltica Pärnu terminal. I am excited to see which one the people will ultimately choose as the winner," said the Mayor of Pärnu Romek Kosenkranius.

In addition to the Mayor of Pärnu, the jury convened by the City of Pärnu also included Deputy Mayors Varje Tipp, Irina Talviste and Silver Smeljanski, Editor-in-Chief of Pärnu Postimees Siiri Erala, Indrek Aija from Pärnu Museum, and Tourism Development Specialist Ave Lääne. The jury for Rail Baltic Estonia included Chairman of the Board Anvar Salomets and Communications Manager Priit Pruul.

The winner of the name contest, Rail Baltic Estonia, has been awarded a cash prize of 1000 euros. Second place will receive 500 euros, and third place will receive 250 euros. Voting is open. On the Rail Baltic Estonia website.

An architectural competition for the construction of the Rail Baltica Pärnu passenger terminal was organized in 2014, and the winner was the work "Water Strider" by the architectural firm Pluss OÜ, whose authors are Indrek Allmann, Jaan Jagomägi, Gunnar Kurusk, Tanno Tammesson, and Holden Vides.

The terminal building with its unique architecture, which is being built in the Papiniidu area of Pärnu, is designed above the platform and is connected to galleries. The terminal building is planned to include a waiting room with 90 seats, as well as a café, information points and other rooms with necessary functions.

Rail Baltica is an environmentally friendly and convenient railway connection that connects Estonia with its southern neighbors and Central Europe. The infrastructure being built will allow passengers to reach Tallinn from Pärnu in 40 minutes and Riga in 1 hour and 42 minutes. Regional trains will also start operating on the Rail Baltica route.
Rail Baltic Estonia is the developer of the Rail Baltica railway in Estonia and will in the future be the infrastructure manager of the Estonian part of this railway.
