Rail Baltic Estonia and AS TREF Nord have signed a contract for the construction of two large projects, the Rae viaduct and the Vaskjala railway bridge. The construction contract is worth 7,3 million euros, and the projects will be completed within the next year.
Rail Baltic Estonia Technical Manager Rashid PulatovAccording to him, these are important objects. “One goal is to ensure the connection between Lake Ülemiste and the Vaskjala reservoir, the other goal is to maintain the connection between the Assaku-Jüri road,” Pulatov noted. “At the same time, Vaskjala is the first railway bridge to be built in Estonia.”
The construction of the Rae viaduct, which will cross the future Rail Baltica railway, will maintain the connection between the village of Rae and the small town of Jüri. The viaduct is 81 meters long and 15 meters wide. Along with the reconstruction of the viaduct and the road, a one-kilometer illuminated pedestrian crossing will also be built. Traffic will not be diverted during construction, and the contractor is responsible for ensuring the road is passable for all road users.
The Vaskjala railway bridge will allow European-gauge trains to travel across the Ülemiste-Vaskjala canal, which will be used to channel additional water from the Vaskjala reservoir to Lake Ülemiste if necessary. The Vaskjala railway bridge is 35 meters wide and 53 meters long.
"To date, the facilities intersecting Rail Baltica have already been completed to the tune of 42 million euros. Today, 6 facilities are under active construction with a cost of 24 million euros, another ten facilities are in construction or contract preparation with a total cost of 62 million euros, and one facility is in procurement with a cost of 1,7 million euros. This will make a significant contribution to the infrastructure construction market and the economy in the coming year," explained Pulatov.
The construction contract for the two sites is worth 7,3 million euros and is scheduled for completion at the end of next year. Construction work will begin as soon as possible.
