Estonia and Finland will sign a memorandum of transport cooperation in Tallinn next week.
Tallinn and Helsinki are two more peripheral capitals from the center of the European Union, and closer interconnection between them will improve the external connections and quality of life of the entire region, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications noted in its announcement.
It is in the interests of both Finland and Estonia to develop transport jointly, for example by contributing to the construction of Rail Baltic, harmonizing digital public transport solutions in Tallinn and Helsinki, and continuing research into the construction of a tunnel connecting the two cities.
The memorandum of common interests on both shores of the Gulf of Finland will be signed on Tuesday by Finnish Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner, Acting Mayor of Helsinki Pekka Sauri, Head of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region Ossi Savolainen, Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Kristen Michal, Acting Mayor of Tallinn Taavi Aas, and Harju County Governor Ülle Rajasalu.
