According to Rail Baltic project manager Miiko Peris, Estonia plans to make the first funding application of 191 million euros in February 2015.

Peris is optimistic about receiving the money, ERR radio news reported. "Rail Baltic is definitely an important project for the European Union. For the European Commission, it is among the five or six most priority projects that need to be implemented, which the European Commission is ready to finance," Peris told the radio.

According to him, the European Commission is certainly ready to very seriously consider the funding application prepared by the Baltic states and their joint venture.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs presented the preferred version of the Rail Baltic route today. The final version of the route will be announced by the beginning of November. Public discussions are expected in the counties next week. Then the county governors will give their preference for the route, and then the route will be presented to the government.

The length of the route, which runs from north to south in Estonian territory, is 211,4 kilometers. Within Estonia, it will cost a total of 1,1 billion euros. The European Union is planning to ask for approximately 650 million euros.
