Deforestation work began on January 12 on the section of the Rail Baltica railway line between Kabli and the Estonian-Latvian border, which will initiate preparations for the construction of the railway in the southernmost section of the route in Estonia.

The deforestation will take place over a section of approximately 12,7 kilometers and is the first stage before the start of large-scale construction work. The work will be carried out by the State Forest Management Center (RMK).

In addition to logging, the route has been marked out on the terrain, access and ditch crossings are being constructed and prepared, temporary accesses are being built, and roads are being compacted using the ground frozen in winter.

Preparations will continue until spring. Rail Baltic Estonia asks residents and road users in the area to take into account temporary restrictions and safety measures when traveling near the route.

Construction work on the Kabli–Latvian border section is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026. The Rail Baltica high-speed railway is scheduled to open for regular train traffic in 2030.
