Due to the poor condition of the roads in Rapla County, Rail Baltic Estonia, in cooperation with contractors, will cut transport volumes in the Hagudi-Rapla area by 40% starting today and will suspend almost all transport in Rapla County and Harju County starting December 20.
Rail Baltic Estonia confirms that it understands the dissatisfaction of local residents about the muddy transport routes and has agreed on urgent mitigation measures with the contractors Verston Eesti and TREV-2.
As of Monday, December 8, the share of mass transport has been reduced by 40% to reduce the load on the roads. The capacity of cleaning equipment will be increased by 30% to ensure regular maintenance and better driving conditions. The situation will be continuously monitored and additional measures will be implemented if necessary.
In cooperation with contractors, longer-term solutions are also being sought: opportunities to make the roads leading out of the quarries dirt-free, to use washing tubs and to implement special washing equipment. It has also been decided that from December 20 until the end of the year, transport will be significantly reduced in both Harju County and Rapla County to ensure a peaceful holiday for the residents of the region.
“Rail Baltica is a project of strategic importance for both Estonia and the entire Baltic region, but it comes with a responsibility to ensure that construction activities do not worsen road safety or the condition of local roads,” said Lauri Ulm, Technical Director of Rail Baltic Estonia. “In cooperation with the contractors, we will implement measures that will stabilize the situation and create sustainable solutions in the long term.”
