Rail Baltic Estonia announced the third tender in a row for the construction of the main route of the Rail Baltica railway.

The construction section, which will be located in Kohila and Rapla rural municipalities, is 7,1 kilometers long and runs from Loone to Hagud. If the construction procurement is successful, construction is planned to begin in early 2024.

"Over the past six months, we have already announced construction procurements for the Rail Baltica main route covering 21 kilometers, and we will probably be able to get a similar volume into the procurement register before the end of this year," said the Chairman of the Board of Rail Baltic Estonia. Anvar Salomets.
According to Salometsa, efforts are being made to make the most of the already short construction season, which is why construction is also underway at facilities that intersect with Rail Baltica. Eight crossings have been completed to date, and construction is underway at nine more sites.

Construction of the main route is expected to begin this year. On the 7,1 km long main route section, which was the last to go out to tender, the construction company will have to build two ecoducts, one road viaduct and two railway viaducts, as well as almost 5 km of noise barriers, in addition to the embankment.
This section also includes a 224-meter-long railway bridge, unique in Estonia.

On the Loone-Hagudi section, the future Rail Baltica railway route will also intersect with the existing Edelaraudtee corridor. In this regard, a temporary bypass railway will be built, which would allow the builder to build the new Pureva railway viaduct and Tamme tee tunnel, as well as the Röa ecoduct on the Edelaraudtee.

In the future, the Southern Railway will run over the Rail Baltica route.

The construction contract for the section is expected to be signed in the last months of this year.

Rail Baltic Estonia has previously announced tenders for the construction of a 9,4 km section from the border of Harju and Rapla counties to Sihi Road and a 4,8 km section from the east side of Ülemiste Station to the intersection of Lagedi Road.

The construction of the Rail Baltica railway is financed to the extent of 85% by European Union funds.
