Rail Baltica Youth Community

In December 2023, the first meeting of the Rail Baltic Estonia youth community took place, the aim of which was to bring together inspiring young people who support the international railway project and whose heartfelt desire is to contribute to the creation of a fast, comfortable, environmentally sustainable and safe transport connection with Europe.

All open-minded and willing young people are welcome to join our youth community in the Facebook group "RB YOUTH".

We organize various exciting meetings each year, focusing on networking, learning about a specific field or topic, and jointly planning future events.

In order for an environmentally conscious mindset to spread among young people and interesting railway-related activities to take place, it is necessary to bring together like-minded people. This is precisely why the Rail Baltica Youth Community was created.

If you know someone from your circle of friends who could be part of the RB youth community, feel free to let them know about us!

For Rail Baltic Estonia, involving young people in the railway project is important in several ways:

  • Young people are the shapers of the future, as well as the future users of Rail Baltica;
  • Involving young people helps ensure that the project also meets the needs and expectations of future generations;
  • Young people bring innovative ideas and creative approaches to the project;
  • Involving young people ensures broader social support for the project and increases cohesion with communities;
  • Young people understand the impact of climate change and want to be part of the solutions to environmental problems to ensure a more sustainable future;
  • Young people are interested in waste management and the circular economy and bring innovative solutions to the table;
  • Young people's love of travel and the environment also increases support for the use of trains and rail transport!

DiscoverEU scholarship – what, how and for whom!?

In 2018, the Erasmus+ program launched an exciting initiative called DiscoverEU, which gives 18-year-olds the opportunity to discover Europe by train.

To win a free travel pass, you must participate in the competition taking place European Youth Portal twice a year, in spring and autumn. A certain number of rail travel passes are provided to young people from each country, allowing them to travel to nearly 30 European countries participating in the programme. All young people who are 18 years old at the time of application, are citizens of a European Union member state and plan to travel for one day to one month can participate. You can go on your dream trip alone or bring up to four friends.

In addition to the travel passport, young people also receive a discount card, which helps pay for food, accommodation, local transportation, culture, sports and other expenses.

A free travel pass allows you to travel by train throughout Europe, learn about cultural heritage, experience new things, practice languages, and meet different people. You can go on your dream trip alone or bring up to four friends.

Since 2022, the DiscoverEU program has also been supported by Rail Baltic Estonia, giving five young people the opportunity to save on accommodation, food and other travel costs with a 500-euro travel scholarship every summer after the second application round.

NB! If you have received positive news about winning the DiscoverEU travel pass, keep an eye on your mailbox and Rail Baltic Estonia social media accounts in May so you can also apply for the RBE travel scholarship!

Youth campaign “THE FUTURE IS ON THE TRAIN”"

Rail Baltic Estonia and Millenzials, whose namesakes are Artjom Savitski and Kris Lüüs (under the stage name Krispoiss), conducted the youth campaign “The Future is on the Train” in November 2024, which aimed to create a youth vision of the Rail Baltica train of the future. The aim of the campaign was to inspire young people to think about the future of transport and infrastructure, provide an opportunity to express their creativity and technological skills, and introduce Rail Baltica as a future-oriented, convenient, safe, and innovative infrastructure project.

It was allowed to visualize both the interior and exterior views of the train, use various design programs and, among other things, the assistance of artificial intelligence. The work had to be submitted in photo format with a short description, where the author described his chosen design solution and explained how the created train meets the needs of the future user and supports the identity of Rail Baltica.

A total of 41 entries were received, of which 36 made it to the final vote according to the rules. The submitted entries were evaluated in three categories, and in addition to the jury, the audience also had the opportunity to have their say.

The campaign was sponsored by Wasa Resort, who gave away 2 spa packages for two to the RBE and audience favorite. All winners will also get 150 euros to shop at Northern Europe's largest premium sneaker and street style store Ballzy.
