Preparatory deforestation work in the area of the future Rail Baltica passenger terminal in Pärnu will begin in the first days of March. The work is estimated to last up to two weeks.
Deforestation will take place along Liivi Road, along a section of approximately 2,5 kilometers, stretching from the Veterans Park to the Forest Cemetery. This is the area of a future railway route, which is being prepared for the construction of a terminal and related infrastructure.
There will be no restrictions on movement during the work, but those moving in the area are asked to be alert and stay away from operating machinery. The work area has been marked to ensure safety.
Deforestation work is being carried out in the state forest by the State Forest Management Centre on behalf of Rail Baltic Estonia. Deforestation means cutting down a forest with the aim of using the land for another purpose, in this case for the construction of a railway and a terminal; after deforestation, the forest is no longer grown in the area.
The construction tender for the Rail Baltica Pärnu passenger terminal is scheduled to be announced this summer, and the construction contract is planned to be signed later this year. The terminal is scheduled to be completed by 2030.
