Rail Baltic Estonia OÜ and Tariston AS signed an agreement in Rapla on Tuesday for the construction of the Hagudi-Alu section of the railway line in Rapla County. During the construction work, a railway embankment of approximately seven kilometers in length will be built, along with associated facilities and infrastructure.

“This is the fourth main route construction contract this year, and it will extend the Rail Baltica railway route under construction in Estonia to nearly 30 kilometers, and the total volume of the contracts is almost 172 million euros,” said Taavi Laja, member of the board of Rail Baltic Estonia, at the signing of the contract in the Rapla State House. “In addition to the contract signed today, construction procurements for another 45 kilometers are in the final stages, and we are continuing to move according to the desired schedule, so that by the end of the year, construction work will be underway on more than 70 kilometers, or a third of the Estonian railway route.”

According to Rašid Pulatov, technical manager of Rail Baltic Estonia, a railway embankment will be built on the Hagudi-Alu route section along with the associated facilities and infrastructure, including the construction of the North Hagudi and South Hagudi animal tunnels, the necessary access roads and maintenance roads, and noise barriers.

"One of the biggest challenges on this section is the construction work in the Hagudi bog, where the contractor must build a more than 600-meter-long concrete structure for the railway line in difficult conditions with as little disturbance to the environment as possible," said Pulatov.

"The final completion of the Rail Baltica railway connection, which we mainly associate with the improvement of the Estonian economy, competitiveness, mobility and thereby security, is a national value for all of us. Therefore, as the head of the company, I am very pleased that with the Hagudi - Alu construction contract signed today, Tariston can make its contribution and our project team can proudly continue the construction of another such important section of the Rail Baltica main route," said Argo Kotsar, member of the Tariston board.

The cost of the construction contract for the Hagudi-Alu section of the route is 30,59 million euros excluding VAT. The work is scheduled to start in the autumn of this year and the completion date is the end of 2027. The construction contract is financed from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and the Estonian state budget.

On the Hagudi-Alu section that is under construction, the Kalevi Ecoduct and the Sikeldi Viaduct have already been completed, and the Kuku and Seli-Koigi-Alu viaducts are expected to be completed in July. The Alu viaduct and the Sikeldi Animal Tunnel are also under construction on the said section.
