Rail Baltic Estonia today signed a construction contract for the construction of the main railway line in Harju County. Merko Ehitus Eesti AS and GRK Eesti AS, which submitted a joint bid, will build the Rail Baltica main line section from the Saku settlement to the Harju-Rapla County border. The contract value is 59,87 million euros.
"We are well on track towards this year's goal of at least 70 kilometres of the Estonian part of the main route of Rail Baltica reaching construction and contracts. The contract signed today for the construction of 10,5 km will help us open a new construction front in Harju County with the help of experienced contractors, and the next sections of Harju County will soon also reach contracts," confirmed the Chairman of the Board of Rail Baltic Estonia Anvar Salomets.

"Good cooperation is an indispensable prerequisite for the high-quality completion of every construction project. Constructive and fast communication with the client, supportive and solution-oriented cooperation with partners and contractors - these are the foundations of success. Extensive and complex work begins. I believe that the next four years will proceed at a fast-paced and cooperative pace," said the chairman of the board of Merko Ehitus Eesti on behalf of the builders. Jaan Mäe.

The construction contract for the Rail Baltica main line, signed today in the Saku rural municipality hall, is the fifth in a row and the second in Harju County to be signed in Estonia this year. The 10,54-kilometer section runs from Saku to the Harju-Rapla county border. Construction work on the main line has already begun in Rapla County.
Although construction work on several intersections is currently underway on the main route section in question (Saku-Tõdva and Tõdva-Hager road viaducts, Tagadi ecoduct), and the Kirdalu-Kiisa road viaduct, Tagadi-Kurtna road viaduct, and Kiisa high-voltage lines have already been completed, the construction of the intersections has not been completed.
Together with the embankment of the main route, the following intersections will be built on this section based on the newly concluded contract: Kiisa ecoduct, Uus-Vääna railway bridge, Vana-Vääna railway bridge, Soo road and its associated tunnel, Koosi light rail tunnel. In addition, the elements of the RB Saku stop and Kurtna station related to the main route will be completed. 1,8 km of noise barriers will be built on the construction section.
The duration of the construction contract is 48 months, meaning the main route section must be completed in August 2028. The contract value of the construction works is 59,87 million euros, plus VAT. The construction contracts are financed to the extent of 85% from the Connecting Europe Facility.
