The construction of Rail Baltica reached a new milestone in Estonia today, when a contract was signed with the joint bidders AS TREV-2 Grupp and AllSpark OÜ for the construction of the first section of the international railway's main Estonian route.
"Today will undoubtedly go down in the history of Rail Baltica as one of the most important, because with the signatures given today, we have finally reached the point that marks the start of the construction of the main railway route. In addition, we have already announced the construction tenders for the remaining main railway route in Harju County," said the Chairman of the Board of Rail Baltic Estonia Anvar Salomets.
According to the head of Rail Baltica Estonia, this is still the beginning of a long journey in the context of the construction of the main route, but with the realization of the next construction procurements, which have already reached contracts and were announced at the end of last year, construction can begin on more than a third of the Rail Baltica Estonia route.
Chairman of the Board of AS TREV-2 Grupp, which will build the first section of the main line Sven PertensAccording to me,
The construction of Rail Baltica is undoubtedly crucial from the perspective of Estonian infrastructure construction companies.
"Rail Baltic Estonia will be the main client in the Estonian infrastructure construction sector in the coming years, replacing the Transport Board, which previously held this position. AS TREV-2 Grupp has already built quite a few Rail Baltica facilities in both Harju and Rapla counties in recent years. As the head of the company, I am very pleased that AS TREV-2 Grupp will sign the first RB main line construction contract in Estonia, and we also believe that it will not be the only one," said Pertens.
The construction section starting from the east side of Ülemiste Station is 4,8 km long and runs to the intersection of Lagedi Road in Soodevahe, Rae parish. The construction section also includes partial construction of the embankment of the Ülemiste Station parking lot, and partial construction of the embankment of the railway section of the prospective passenger car loading station.
The width of the embankment of the main route to be built is 14 to 20 meters in this section, and construction work will begin in the spring of this year. Along with the railway embankment, the necessary drainage, cable ducts, land improvement systems, retaining walls will also be built, and various utility networks will be relocated. A culvert will also be built in the railway embankment on this section to ensure passage for small animals.
The contract value is 34,176,386 euros, 85% of which is financed from the Connecting Europe Facility. Construction work will start in the spring of this year and, according to the contract, construction work in this section should be completed by mid-2027.
