On September 23, a conference on Rail Baltic was held in Riga, the aim of which was to introduce the developments and current status of the project in the three Baltic countries.
Representatives from all countries stated that the project development is generally at the same stage and that the problems related to border crossing points have been resolved. Currently, work is underway in all countries to establish the route, which will be completed by the beginning of next year at the latest. Then, work will begin on technical solutions and preliminary design.
Estonia's perspective on the project was opened by Indrek Orav, Head of Rail Baltic Estonia, and Andres Lindemann, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. Indrek Orav spoke about the economic impact of the project and the competitiveness of the region, while Andres Lindemann spoke about issues related to the route, planning, and passenger terminals.
In addition to the planning process of the three countries, the conference also discussed the role and importance of neighboring countries in the project. It is important to connect Rail Baltic to the entire European railway network in order to expand the possibilities for the movement of both people and goods.
